Best MCP Servers for Work: Gmail, Slack, Notion, Calendar and More
The official MCP servers for the apps you work in, who makes each one, and how to add them to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.

The best MCP servers for work are the official ones from the apps themselves, because the vendor maintains them, hosts them and handles sign-in through OAuth. MCP here means the Model Context Protocol, the open standard Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI assistants use to connect to outside apps.
For daily work, the right servers let those assistants read your inbox, threads and tickets without you pasting them in. Below: one server per app, setup in each client, and the security checks to run first.
What is an MCP server?
An MCP server is a small program that exposes one app's data and actions as MCP tools that your AI client, the MCP client, calls when you ask in natural language, such as "search threads" in Gmail or "create issue" in Linear. Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol in November 2024, and in December 2025 it became a founding project of the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation, by which point more than 10,000 MCP servers had been published (Linux Foundation, 2025).
Servers come in two kinds:
- Remote MCP servers run at a URL the vendor operates. You paste the URL into your AI client and sign in. Every app below except the local tools offers one.
- Local servers run on your machine, usually through
npxor Docker, and can reach your files and browser. Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor run them; ChatGPT and Claude on the web can't launch them and connect to servers over the network instead.

How do the best MCP servers for work compare?
Almost every major work app now runs its own hosted MCP server, and they differ mainly in maturity and limits. Most popular MCP servers lists, from the awesome MCP servers directories on GitHub to vendor roundups, lean toward developer tools; this one sticks to work apps. Details were checked on each vendor's documentation in October 2026.
| App | Server (maker) | Hosted or local | Clients named in its docs | Cost and limits (checked October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All your work apps | Unabyss | Hosted | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other MCP clients | 7-day free trial, then Pro $15/mo; serves context, doesn't act inside your apps |
| Gmail | Gmail MCP server (Google) | Hosted, Developer Preview | Claude, Google Antigravity, any Streamable HTTP client | Developer Preview members only; in Claude it needs Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise |
| Google Calendar | Calendar MCP server (Google) | Hosted, Developer Preview | Claude, Google Antigravity, any Streamable HTTP client | Same as Gmail |
| Slack | Slack MCP server (Slack) | Hosted | Claude.ai, Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity | Workspace admins approve each client; normal Slack API rate limits |
| Notion | Notion MCP (Notion) | Hosted | Claude Code, Cursor, Codex | Works on every Notion plan |
| GitHub | GitHub MCP Server (GitHub) | Hosted or local (Docker) | VS Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, Gemini CLI | Open source |
| Linear | Linear MCP (Linear) | Hosted | Claude, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed | Separate read-only endpoint |
| Jira, Confluence | Atlassian Rovo MCP Server (Atlassian) | Hosted | ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot CLI, Cursor, VS Code | Uses your organization's Rovo credits |
| HubSpot | HubSpot MCP server (HubSpot) | Hosted | Any MCP client | Needs an app on HubSpot's Developer Platform |
| ClickUp | ClickUp MCP (ClickUp) | Hosted | "All major MCP clients" | All plans; without the Everything AI add-on, 100 calls a day on Free Forever |
| Files | Filesystem (MCP project) | Local | Clients that run local servers | Free, open source |
| Browser | Playwright MCP (Microsoft) | Local | VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop, Goose | Free, open source |
Most remote servers in this table can also be added to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, even where their docs don't name ChatGPT. Servers that accept only approved clients, such as Slack's, may not connect that way.
What are the best MCP servers for Gmail and Google Calendar?
Google's own Gmail and Calendar MCP servers are the official picks, but they're still in the Google Workspace Developer Preview, so most people are better served by the connectors already built into their AI client.
Gmail MCP server
Google's Gmail MCP server runs at gmailmcp.googleapis.com and offers tools to search threads, read them, manage labels and create drafts. It has no send tool, so you send drafts from Gmail yourself. Setup takes a Google Cloud project, two enabled APIs, an OAuth consent screen and an OAuth client. In Claude, the built-in Gmail connector does the same jobs with no Cloud project, and it can't send either (Claude Help Center). More in Gmail MCP: What It Does and Whether It's Worth It.
Google Calendar MCP server
The Calendar MCP server lists, creates, updates and deletes events, responds to invitations and suggests meeting times. It shares Gmail's preview status and setup; Claude's built-in Calendar connector covers the same ground without it.
What are the best MCP servers for Slack and Notion?
Slack and Notion both run official hosted servers that cover search, reading and writing, so there's little reason to use a community version.
Slack MCP server
The Slack MCP server lives at mcp.slack.com/mcp. It searches messages, files, channels and members, reads channel history, sends messages, and works with canvases and lists (Slack Help Center). Only directory-published or internal Slack apps can use it, so expect a workspace admin to approve your client. More in Slack MCP: What It Does and Whether It's Worth It.
Notion MCP server
Notion MCP is hosted at mcp.notion.com/mcp, signs in with OAuth, reads and writes your workspace data, and works on every Notion plan; some search features need Business or Enterprise. Its old open-source local server is no longer actively maintained. Details in Notion MCP: What It Does, How to Use It, and Whether It's Worth It.
What are the best MCP servers for GitHub, Linear, Jira and ClickUp?
For code and project tracking, use each vendor's own server: GitHub's, Linear's, Atlassian's for Jira and Confluence, and ClickUp's.
GitHub MCP server
The GitHub MCP Server is one of the most-used MCP servers, with 32,200 GitHub stars in October 2026. It covers your GitHub repositories, issues and pull requests. Use the hosted version at api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/ or run the Docker image locally, and sign in with OAuth or a personal access token. Two flags matter: --toolsets loads only the tool groups you need, and --read-only drops every write tool. See GitHub MCP Server: What It Does, and Whether It's Worth It.
Linear MCP server
Linear MCP at mcp.linear.app/mcp finds, creates and updates issues, projects and comments, with OAuth 2.1 sign-in. A separate /mcp/readonly endpoint suits research sessions where you don't want an agent editing tickets. More in Linear MCP: What It Does and Where Its Limits Are.
Jira and Confluence MCP server
The Atlassian Rovo MCP Server covers Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence and Bitbucket from one endpoint, with OAuth 2.1. Usage draws on your organization's Rovo credits, so check the allowance before a team rollout.
ClickUp MCP server
ClickUp's server at mcp.clickup.com/mcp is OAuth-only and available on all plans. Without the Everything AI add-on, each Workspace and client gets 100 calls per rolling 24 hours on Free Forever, 300 on Unlimited and 1,000 on Business. Full breakdown: ClickUp MCP Server: Tools, Limits and How to Connect It.
What is the best MCP server for HubSpot?
HubSpot's own remote server is the one to use: it gives any MCP client read and write access to CRM records and engagements, with marketing data read-only (HubSpot Developers). You connect it through a user-level app on HubSpot's Developer Platform. More in What Is the HubSpot MCP Server?
Which local MCP servers are worth installing for files and browser automation?
The filesystem server and a browser server are the two local picks worth installing, because they reach what no hosted server can: your own folders and a real browser on your machine.
- Filesystem: the reference server from the MCP project reads and writes local files in folders you allow. It's labelled a reference implementation, not a production product, so point it only at folders you'd hand to an assistant.
- Playwright MCP: Microsoft's browser server (38,000 stars) drives a real browser through accessibility snapshots instead of screenshots. Install it with
npx @playwright/mcp@latest. - Context7: Upstash's hosted server feeds coding agents current library docs (GitHub). It's hosted rather than local and built for coding, so add it only if you write code with AI.
How do you add an MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor?
Each client takes a server URL, then sends you through the app's own sign-in. The steps differ by client.
Claude
In Claude or Claude Desktop, go to Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector, and paste the server URL (Claude Help Center). Free plans allow one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds it under Organization settings first. In Claude Code, one command does it:
claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code to finish the OAuth sign-in.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT on the web connects to a server URL, or to a private server through OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel; it doesn't run local servers. OpenAI's custom server guide starts on the Plugins page: click +, choose Add custom MCP server, enter the URL and authentication, accept the risk warning and select Create as a plugin (OpenAI docs). Its developer mode guide routes the same job through Settings > Apps > Advanced settings > Developer mode on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, with write actions confirmed one by one (OpenAI docs). If the Plugins option isn't there, turn on developer mode first; in a Business or Enterprise workspace, its permission and security settings apply. More in How Does ChatGPT Use MCP?
Cursor
Cursor reads servers from .cursor/mcp.json in a project or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects (Cursor docs). Remote servers take a url, local ones a command:
{
"mcpServers": {
"linear": { "url": "https://mcp.linear.app/mcp" },
"playwright": { "command": "npx", "args": ["@playwright/mcp@latest"] }
}
}
Cursor runs the OAuth flow for servers that need it.
Are MCP servers safe to connect?
Official servers are as safe as the access you grant them, but any server that reads untrusted content can be turned against you through prompt injection. In the MCPTox benchmark, poisoned tool descriptions on 45 real MCP servers got o1-mini to follow them 72.8% of the time, and no agent refused more than 3% of attacks (Wang et al., 2025). In May 2025, Invariant Labs showed that a malicious public GitHub issue could steer AI agents using the GitHub MCP server into leaking private repository data (Invariant Labs).
Practical rules:
- Prefer the vendor's hosted server to a random repo with the same name.
- Give each server scoped access: read-only modes where they exist (Linear's
/readonlyendpoint, GitHub's--read-only), narrow tokens everywhere else. - Approve write actions one by one, and turn off tools you don't use.
- Don't connect a server that reads public content to one that can write somewhere private in the same session.

Should you run one MCP server per app?
For actions, yes; for context, it's the expensive way to do it. With multiple MCP servers, every server you connect adds its own tool definitions to the model's context before you type, along with its own sign-in, its own admin approval and its own security review (why too many MCP servers make your AI worse). And each server only knows its own app, so a question like "what did I promise this client?" sends the AI searching Gmail, then Slack, then Linear, every time.
Unabyss takes the other route: one MCP connection that builds your personal context from the apps you connect (Gmail, Calendar, Slack, Notion, GitHub, Linear, Jira, HubSpot, ClickUp and the rest of the 26 on its integrations page), keeps it current, and serves it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients. You can exclude whole apps, private information or company-confidential material per connection. In an August 2026 Unabyss benchmark against a baseline that had the same tools connected, adding Unabyss cut cost by 36%, time by 38% and follow-up prompts by 60%, and raised the quality of accepted output from 7.7 to 8.9 out of 10 (What Structured AI Context Is Worth).
Where is a single-app MCP server the better choice than Unabyss?
A vendor's own server is the better choice whenever the AI has to do something inside the app, not just know about it.
- You need actions. Unabyss doesn't create Gmail drafts, post to Slack or file issues. Gmail's, Slack's and Linear's servers do.
- You need the live state of one object, such as the exact diff of an open pull request or today's free slots in your calendar.
- You only care about one app. One official server, often free with your plan, beats a subscription.
- You want everything local. The filesystem and browser servers run entirely on your machine.
Most setups end up with both: a few vendor servers for daily actions, and Unabyss for the context every tool should start with. Other cross-tool options are compared in the best AI memory tools across ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor. To try the one-connection version, connect two apps to Unabyss and add it to the AI client you use most.
